I have symptoms that go beyond sleep problems

In this article, you will learn what you can do if your burdens go beyond sleep problems and where you can find support.

somnio was developed to support you with persistent sleep problems, especially sleep onset insomnia and sleep maintenance insomnia. At the same time, sleep is not separate from your overall health situation. If several issues are currently burdening you, e.g. severe stress, physical symptoms, or psychological burdens, it may make sense to decide together with your treating specialist (e.g. general practitioner or psychotherapist) whether starting somnio is right for you at the moment.

If you notice that more than just your sleep is affecting you, or that you have not been feeling emotionally well for a longer period of time, it is important to get additional support. You do not have to deal with such situations alone.

Who can you talk to?
If possible, first talk to people you trust. These can be, for example, partners, friends, family members, or other people close to you. It can often be relieving to say out loud what is weighing on you.

In addition, there are professional points of contact that can support you, for example:

  • doctors (e.g. your general practitioner),
  • psychotherapists or psychological counseling centers,
  • psychosocial counseling services or help lines.

These points of contact can assess your current situation together with you and determine what support is useful right now.

When is it an emergency?
An emergency exists, among other things, if:

  • you feel very heavily burdened and have thoughts of doing something to yourself,
  • your situation suddenly becomes significantly worse,
  • you are experiencing or observing acute threat, violence, or other severe crisis situations.

In such situations, it is important to get help immediately – even if you are unsure whether it is "serious enough". Seeking help is not a sign of weakness, but an important step to protect yourself.

What you can do in acute situations:

  • Contact the nearest clinic with psychiatric or psychological emergency services.
  • Call the emergency services (in Germany: 112) or the police (in Germany: 110) if you think that you or others are in immediate danger.
  • Reach out to a trusted person and ask for support.

Important note:
somnio cannot and should not replace professional emergency help in such situations. Your safety and your well-being always come first. If you are unsure whether somnio is the right support at the moment, please speak with a health care professional or psychotherapist – especially if you are currently under severe strain or your condition is worsening.
